Chandigarh, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted dense fog in Chandigarh for the next two days. Scientist Shivinder Singh from IMD Chandigarh stated, “Due to the rain on Thursday, the temperature dropped, and humidity is high, increasing the possibility of dense fog, particularly near open fields and isolated roads in the early morning.”
A yellow alert has been issued by the IMD, indicating the second level of the four-color warning system, urging people to remain vigilant and updated. The warning advises precautionary measures, especially during early morning driving.
Dense fog, defined when visibility drops below 250 meters, has not been recorded in the city this season. Singh suggested that due to Thursday’s rain, it might appear earlier than the usual start towards the second half of December.
On Friday, following a record 54.5 mm rain that caused the maximum temperature to drop to 16.6°C, Chandigarh experienced a warmer day at 23.5°C, albeit still two degrees below normal. The minimum temperature, however, dropped from 15°C to 11.8°C, one degree above normal.
The upcoming three days are expected to maintain a maximum temperature around 25°C and a minimum temperature around 10°C.
In positive news, the city’s air quality improved post the record rainfall on Thursday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at the Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS) in Sector 22 was 99, classified as “satisfactory.” Sector 25 recorded an AQI of 50, marking the upper limit of “good,” while Sector 53’s AQI was 118, falling into the “moderate” bracket.
