In a significant boost to the local economy, Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt Ltd has made a substantial investment of over Rs 200 crore to establish a cutting-edge manufacturing plant in the Talegaon area. The inauguration ceremony took place in Badhalawadi village, just a few kilometers from Talegaon, and marked a momentous occasion for the company and the surrounding community.
The sprawling manufacturing facility spans 40,000 square meters, with an initial built-up area of 15,400 square meters. This ambitious project aims to not only bolster local employment but also contribute to the region’s economic development. The plant has already taken on board 100 employees, predominantly from the local community, and has plans to hire an additional 500 employees in the coming months.
The plant is scheduled to commence operations in January 2024, and the company has expressed its commitment to gradually scaling up the workforce as they diversify their product line. Currently, the facility has shifted operations from Bhosari to Talegaon, with a focus on manufacturing Inverters, also known as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), used in driving motors and controllers.
Tomohiro Yoshida, Director and Factory Automation Division Head, Mitsubishi Electric India, shed light on the strategic choice of Talegaon, stating, “We already had a factory site in Bhosari, and we were in search of larger spaces near Bhosari to optimize our existing facility and utilize our skilled workforce. Talegaon emerged as a suitable area for our investment after exploring various options, including Chakan.”
The company outlined its future plans, with Hisahiro Nishimoto, Group Vice President, Industry and Mobility Area (IMBA), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan, stating, “The initial investment stands at around Rs 2.2 billion, and we anticipate increasing our investment as we expand the facility.” The Talegaon facility is poised to become the center for their Factory Automation (FA) manufacturing operations, focusing on a range of industrial automation and control products.
Expressing appreciation for the Indian government’s initiatives, Yoshida and Nishimoto emphasized their commitment to supporting the Make-in-India program. They noted the significant rise in demand for Automation Products in India and cited the new manufacturing plant in Pune as their contribution to accelerating the use of automation in manufacturing.
Nishimoto underscored the strategic significance of the Indian market for Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in the global context, stating, “The anticipated growth avenues for the Indian market are closely tied to global trends, such as the widespread adoption of Industry 4.0 principles and the rise of smart manufacturing initiatives.”
