In a compelling address during the closing session of the G20 Summit 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a resounding call for international institutions, notably the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to evolve in accordance with the ever-changing global landscape.

Modi, advocating for India’s permanent membership within the UNSC, emphasized the paramount importance of adapting to change. In his eloquent speech, he highlighted the transformative shifts witnessed across sectors, encompassing transportation, communication, healthcare, and education. “These new realities should get reflected in our new global structure,” asserted Modi.

The Prime Minister’s vision extended beyond UNSC reforms. He also advocated for change in multilateral banks, global regulations pertaining to cryptocurrency assets, responsible AI governance centered on humanity’s interests, and enhanced global cooperation in cybersecurity.

Modi concluded his address by proposing another G20 summit in November, under Brazil’s forthcoming presidency. In his closing remarks, he championed a human-centric approach over a GDP-centric one, affirming India’s commitment to share data from the Chandrayaan moon mission for the greater good of humanity.

As the world continues to transform at an unprecedented pace, Prime Minister Modi’s call for adaptability and reform in global structures resonates as a forward-looking imperative.
