In a recent statement, former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle hinted that MS Dhoni might not participate in all matches of IPL 2024. Gayle suggested that Dhoni could take a break midway through the tournament, which led to the decision to pass on the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gayle’s remarks came ahead of the IPL 2024 opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Dhoni, who has been solely focused on IPL since 2020, battled through a knee injury last season amid retirement speculations. Despite the injury, he committed to playing this season for the fans. However, he has handed over the captaincy reins to Gaikwad, indicating a possible reduction in his match appearances.
Dhoni’s fitness, although questioned, was evident in the recent match where he displayed swift movements behind the stumps for CSK.
CSK Maintains Stellar Record Against RCB
In another match update, Chennai Super Kings continued their dominant record against Royal Challengers Bangalore with a convincing six-wicket victory. Mustafizur Rahman’s exceptional bowling performance restricted RCB to 173 for six, setting the stage for CSK’s triumph.
Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube’s composed batting ensured CSK’s successful chase, maintaining their unbeaten streak against RCB at home since 2008.
