Director Nag Ashwin provided insights into his highly anticipated project, Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, during an event at IIT Bombay.
‘Kalki is not Star Wars’
Addressing speculation about the film being India’s Star Wars, Nag Ashwin emphasized that Kalki 2898 AD is a standalone project, stating, “It’s India’s Project K, India’s Kalki. It’s one film, and I think that’s enough.” While dismissing franchise plans, he hinted at openness to a sequel based on fan theories.
We custom-built the weapons’
The film’s unique weapons, a subject of discussion after the teaser release, were custom-built. Nag explained the challenges faced in the absence of reference points, highlighting the team’s commitment to crafting original props. VFX enhancements are promised to improve the visual impact in the final release.
The final avatar’
Despite being a sci-fi film, Kalki 2898 AD draws a surprising connection to mythology. Nag revealed, “Kalki is the final avatar of Vishnu,” hinting at a link between the futuristic setting and past mythology. The choice of the name is intended to reflect this connection.
