New Delhi |In a recent development, sources suggest that the National Eligibility-cum-Entry Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 examination is slated for the first week of July, followed by counseling in August. Contrary to previous plans, the National Exit Test (NExT) is not expected to take place this year.
“The NEET-PG examination is likely to be held in the first week of July. The counseling is likely to begin in the first week of August,” stated an informed source.
According to the recently-notified “Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023,” which have replaced the Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018, the existing NEET-PG examination will continue until the proposed NExT becomes operational for PG admission.
NEET-PG serves as the single entrance examination under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses.
Understanding the National Exit Test (NExT)
The NExT, initially aimed at streamlining medical licensing and admissions, is currently on hold in India. Intended to replace both NEET-PG and FMGE for foreign medical graduates, NExT was designed as a two-part exam assessing theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Despite potential benefits, its implementation has faced delays, leaving NEET-PG as the primary gateway to postgraduate medical education.
