Patna: As the intense heatwave continues to grip the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, predicting severe heatwave conditions in several districts, including Buxar, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Siwan, and Arwal, until June 13.

The state’s relative humidity, at 59%, is worsening the heatwave’s impact.

This alert comes after a day of dry weather and extreme heat in multiple districts, with nine others experiencing mild heatwaves. Aurangabad has been particularly affected, with temperatures reaching a record 44.9 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours. Other districts such as Gaya, Rohtas, Sheikhpura, Buxar, Bhojpur, and Arwal have also seen temperatures surpassing 44 degrees Celsius. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5 degrees above normal.

Rainfall has been sparse, with only isolated showers recorded in Kishanganj district and its surrounding areas. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in a few places in the northeast and north-central parts of Bihar by June 14. However, the southwest and south-central regions are expected to remain dry until June 15-16.

In addition, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in several districts on June 13 and 14.
