In a groundbreaking initiative, representatives from India, Taiwan, and the United States are participating in a joint, in-person meeting in New Delhi to enhance operational expertise and exchange best practices in the realm of cybersecurity. This marks the first-ever collaboration on technology issues between the three nations.
The two-day joint workshop, co-hosted by former National Cyber Security Coordinator Lt Gen Rajesh Pant, Taiwan’s representative to India Baushuan Ger, and US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, commenced on Monday. The workshop is conducted under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF), a platform established by Taiwan and the US in 2015.
During the workshop, Lt Gen Rajesh Pant emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in India’s national security context, given the vast number of internet users and smartphones in the country. Baushuan Ger highlighted the significance of GCTF as a platform to leverage Taiwan’s strengths and expertise to address global concerns. Ambassador Garcetti reiterated the commitment of the United States to collaborate closely with India and Taiwan to enhance cybersecurity and protect shared interests in the digital space.
The US embassy’s statement conveyed, “The United States looks forward to continued collaboration with India, Taiwan, and like-minded partners to tackle shared challenges.”
Notably, this workshop represents the first in-person GCTF program held in India, indicating a milestone in trilateral cooperation on cybersecurity.
While India and Taiwan lack formal diplomatic relations, they have maintained representative offices in each other’s capitals since 1995. The workshop further solidifies the collaborative efforts in technology and security issues between these nations.
