New Delhi, In a splendid ceremony, the Government of India announced the Padma Awards for 2024, honoring eminent personalities who have made significant contributions in various fields. The prestigious Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, has been bestowed upon former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, versatile actor Chiranjeevi, and the legendary dancer-actor Vyjayantimala Bali, among others.
The list of Padma Bhushan awardees is equally illustrious, featuring names such as actor Mithun Chakraborty, renowned singer Usha Uthup, and Foxconn chairman Young Liu, who has played a pivotal role in the global technology landscape. The awards also recognized the late M Fathima Beevi, the first woman Supreme Court judge, and Hormusji N Cama, the owner of Bombay Samachar.
In the Padma Shri category, 117 exceptional individuals from diverse fields, including sports, philanthropy, literature, and art, have been honored. Notable recipients include tennis player Rohan Bopanna, philanthropist Kiran Nadar, and former hockey player Harbinder Singh.
The awards, conferred by the President at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, are a celebration of exceptional service and talent. This year’s list includes 30 women, 8 individuals from the category of foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, and 9 posthumous awardees.
