DUBAI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday that it has officially signed the hosting rights agreement for the 2025 Champions Trophy with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The agreement, signed at the ICC headquarters in Dubai, was facilitated by Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of PCB’s Management Committee.
Pakistan, having last hosted an ICC event in 1996 (ODI World Cup), looks forward to organizing the prestigious 2025 Champions Trophy.
The biggest challenge facing Pakistan’s hosting is the uncertainty regarding the Indian cricket team’s participation. The PCB, having faced security-related challenges in the past, is committed to providing foolproof security to visiting teams.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, in a recent meeting with Chairman PCB Management Committee, assured cooperation from security agencies for the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The PCB acknowledges logistical hurdles, including the renovation of existing international venues, to ensure they are ready for the mega event. Presently, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan have stadiums capable of hosting Champions Trophy games.
While Pakistan was guaranteed to host the 2009 Champions Trophy and matches of the 2011 World Cup, security concerns, highlighted by the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team, led to both events being moved from the country.
Exciting Developments: This announcement marks a significant development for Pakistan’s cricketing landscape, and cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the 2025 Champions Trophy.
