In a scathing attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that trust cannot be placed in the Congress. He stated that the Congress’s way of working for 75 years has weakened India’s unity, integrity, and interests.

PM Modi to Rally in Meerut Today

For the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kickstart his campaign with a rally in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, today. Prior to this, he took a dig at the Congress through a tweet. PM Modi began his tweet with a startling revelation, stating, “Eye-opening and alarming.” He then wrote, “New facts reveal how Congress gave away Kachchatheevu Island. Every Indian is angry about this.” PM Modi reiterated that trust cannot be placed in the Congress, as their 75-year-old way of working has weakened India’s unity, integrity, and interests.

PM Modi Mentions Kachchatheevu Island in Tweet

PM Modi targeted the Congress by mentioning Kachchatheevu Island in his tweet. He had first brought up this island during the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha in 2023. During the opposition’s debate, allegations were made against the Congress regarding the division of India. Kachchatheevu Island was given to Sri Lanka by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In 1974, under an agreement between then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike, India gifted the island to Sri Lanka. PM Modi questioned who gave the Prime Minister the authority to gift Indian land to another country as a present.

Information Sought Under RTI

The Bharatiya Janata Party hopes to gain traction in the southern states by raising the issue of Kachchatheevu Island during the Lok Sabha elections. An RTI application was filed by the BJP’s unit in Tamil Nadu seeking information on the decision to hand over Kachchatheevu Island to neighboring Sri Lanka in 1974 under the Indira Gandhi government. PM Modi’s tweet targeted the Congress on this matter, stating that the Congress’s way of working for 75 years has weakened India’s unity, integrity, and interests.

PM Modi’s Rally in Meerut

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, today, to launch his election campaign. According to the BJP, residents from Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana Lok Sabha constituencies will also attend the rally besides Meerut. It is noteworthy that Uttar Pradesh will witness elections in all seven phases on 80 seats, starting from western UP. Voting in Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana Lok Sabha constituencies will take place on April 19 under the first phase. However, polling in Meerut and Baghpat will take place under the second phase on April 26.

BJP Fields Arun Govil in Meerut

In Meerut, the BJP has nominated renowned actor Arun Govil as its candidate after he gained fame for portraying Lord Ram in the epic television series ‘Ramayana.’ It is hoped that Arun Govil, along with PM Modi, will share the stage. Additionally, Ralod Chief Chaudhary Jayant Singh will also share the platform with the BJP. It is worth mentioning that the Jat community holds sway in western Uttar Pradesh, and recently, Ralod became a part of the NDA.
