Varanasi -In a momentous event today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the commencement of an international cricket stadium in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. The foundation stone was laid with great enthusiasm and witnessed the presence of former Indian cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri, along with prominent officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), including President Roger Binny, Vice-President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath graced the occasion with his presence.

This ambitious project, undertaken collaboratively by the Uttar Pradesh government and the BCCI, represents a significant investment. The government of Uttar Pradesh has allocated a substantial ₹121 crore for land acquisition, while the BCCI is expected to contribute ₹330 crore towards the stadium’s construction.

Located in the Rajatalab area near the Ring Road, the stadium is projected to be fully operational by December 2025. A unique feature of the stadium is its design, which is said to resemble the iconic steps of the ghats of Varanasi in the spectators’ gallery.

This development marks a notable addition to Uttar Pradesh’s sports infrastructure, becoming the third international cricket stadium in the state, joining the ranks of Kanpur and Lucknow.

This grand undertaking not only promises to be a significant boost to the sports scene in Uttar Pradesh but also aligns with the government’s vision of promoting sports and nurturing talent in the region. It is a milestone event for the city of Varanasi and a testament to the commitment of all involved in realizing this dream.
