Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the 20th ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, today, reaffirming the pivotal role that ASEAN plays in India’s Act East policy. He underscored the crucial place that ASEAN holds within India’s Indo-Pacific initiative.
During his address at the Summit, PM Modi celebrated the enduring India-ASEAN partnership, which has now entered its fourth decade. He expressed his honor at co-chairing this significant gathering.
Modi emphasized the shared values, regional integration, and a mutual commitment to peace that bind India and ASEAN together.
His visit to Indonesia included participation in the 18th East Asia Summit and the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, both held under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”
At the prestigious Jakarta Convention Centre, where the ASEAN Summit took place, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Upon his arrival in Indonesia on September 7, the Prime Minister was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at Jakarta International Airport. The reception was hosted by I. Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection.
Prime Minister Modi also had the opportunity to connect with members of the Indian diaspora, who greeted him at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jakarta with chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Modi Modi.’ He engaged in interactions with community members, including children, and graciously posed for selfies with them.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to New Delhi in the evening of September 7, in preparation for the upcoming G20 Summit, slated for September 9 and 10.
Prime Minister Modi’s presence at the ASEAN Summit not only underscores India’s commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN nations but also highlights the significant role that ASEAN plays in regional and global dynamics, particularly in the context of the Indo-Pacific region.
