New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 through virtual means on Tuesday, where he will reveal a comprehensive blueprint for the maritime blue economy.
This blueprint is poised to outline strategic initiatives that focus on augmenting port facilities, advocating sustainable practices, and fostering international collaboration, as stated by the Prime Minister’s Office.
In addition to the unveiling of the blueprint, Modi will preside over the inauguration and dedication of projects valued at over ₹23,000 crore, aligning with the ‘Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’ for the Indian maritime blue economy. Among these projects is the Tuna Tekra all-weather deep draft terminal, with an estimated cost exceeding ₹4,500 crore, to be established at the Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat. This state-of-the-art greenfield terminal will be developed under a public-private partnership and is anticipated to evolve into a global trade hub, accommodating next-generation vessels exceeding 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), and serving as a pivotal gateway for Indian trade via the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will dedicate more than 300 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at over ₹7 lakh crore, underscoring both global and national collaborations within the maritime sector.
The Global Maritime India Summit is the largest maritime event in the country and boasts participation from ministers, global CEOs, business leaders, investors, and officials from across the globe. It offers a platform for discussion and deliberation on key issues in the maritime sector, spanning topics such as future ports, decarbonization, coastal shipping, shipbuilding, financial aspects, and maritime clusters.
The three-day summit will witness the presence of ministers representing countries from various continents, including Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and the Middle East, along with prominent business figures, stakeholders, and officials.
