Trichy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new international terminal at Trichy airport, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,112 crore, and pledged the Centre’s support to Tamil Nadu in the wake of recent floods. Modi, addressing the challenges faced by the state, stated, “The last few weeks of 2023 were difficult for many people in Tamil Nadu. We lost many of our fellow citizens due to heavy rain. There has been a significant loss of property. The central government stands with the people of Tamil Nadu. We are providing every possible support to the state government.”
After inaugurating the terminal, Modi launched projects worth Rs 20,140 crore. He emphasized the significant increase in funds allocated to Tamil Nadu by the Centre, stating, “The Centre has given Tamil Nadu funds which are two and a half times more than what it had received before 2014. In the past ten years, Rs 120 lakh crore has been given to state governments.”
Calling for India to become a developed nation in the next quarter-century, Modi highlighted Tamil Nadu’s contribution to culture and development. “When Tamil Nadu reaches quick development, the development of Bharat will also speed up,” he added.
Governor R N Ravi, Chief Minister M K Stalin, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State L Murugan, Trichy Lok Sabha MP Su Thirunavukkarasar, and others participated in the event.
Earlier, PM Modi attended the 38th convocation of Bharathidasan University, where he praised the role of universities in India’s rise and economic growth.
