Renowned international boxer Vijender Singh has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He arrived at the BJP headquarters to formally join the party. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Vijender contested from South Delhi on a Congress ticket but was defeated by BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.

The political landscape is witnessing significant shifts ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP’s fold has once again expanded with the inclusion of Vijender Singh. It’s noteworthy that Vijender had contested the previous Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from South Delhi. However, now he has joined the BJP.

This move could be a significant setback for the Congress party. According to media reports, there were speculations in political circles that the Congress was considering fielding Vijender Singh from Mathura in the upcoming elections. However, his ticket was not finalized, and in the meantime, he joined the BJP.

Vijender Singh joined the BJP in the presence of BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the opposition leader in the Delhi Assembly and BJP’s candidate from South Delhi. Vijender Singh belongs to the Jat community, which holds significant political influence in Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. He won a bronze medal in boxing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has clinched several other medals for the country in various international competitions.
