Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed apprehension regarding electoral bonds amidst preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He remarked on the discontinuation of electoral bonds, stating, “One day, everyone will regret.”
During an interview with news agency ANI, PM Modi raised concerns about the transparency of financial transactions facilitated by electoral bonds. He questioned, “Who gave the money? How was it given? Where was it given?” Reflecting on the Supreme Court’s decision to discontinue electoral bonds, PM Modi emphasized the need for honesty among opposition leaders, suggesting that everyone would eventually regret their actions.
The Congress party has targeted Prime Minister Modi over his comments on the electoral bond scheme. Allegations have been made that the revelations about the use of bonds have exposed severe corruption within the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Modi government. Party Secretary Jayaram Ramesh took to social media platform ‘X’ to accuse PM Modi of continually reaching new heights of hypocrisy and descending deeper into dishonesty.
The Supreme Court had declared the electoral bond scheme null and void on February 15. The Constitution Bench, chaired by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, ruled that the scheme violated the fundamental rights to freedom of expression and information by keeping the scheme entirely confidential. In other words, PM Modi sought to conceal from the public where political parties obtained their funds and how they were utilized.
In an interview with ANI, PM Narendra Modi remarked, “I have significant plans. There is no need to fear. My decisions are not intended to intimidate or diminish anyone. They are made for the overall development of the country.”
Regarding the Ram Mandir issue, PM Modi stated that it was a political tool for the opposition. With the construction now complete, the issue has been taken out of their hands.
