Bengaluru, In a strategic move for minority welfare, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to craft a comprehensive Rs 1,000 crore action plan. During a review session on the progress of Minority Welfare and Housing Departments, he emphasized the identification of areas with significant minority populations for targeted grants.
In response to the central government’s suspension of scholarships for minority students, the state government, led by Siddaramaiah, is set to bear the costs and disburse scholarships to 6.4 lakh students. A budget allocation of Rs 60 crore has been earmarked, with an additional Rs 40 crore to be arranged by redistributing funds from the Minority Welfare department.
Highlighting the completion of 1.31 lakh houses out of a targeted 3 lakh under various schemes this year, the Chief Minister urged officials to accelerate the construction, aiming for the completion of 1.6 lakh houses by March.
Housing, Minority Welfare, and Haj Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, alongside other officials, were present at the meeting. The Chief Minister acknowledged a surge in online applications for minority schemes and expressed the government’s commitment to providing more grants in the upcoming year.
