Centurion, In a monumental tweet, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar praised KL Rahul’s exceptional century during the 1st Test against South Africa. Rahul’s innings of 101 off 137 balls at Centurion not only made him the first overseas batter with multiple Test centuries at the venue but also earned him accolades from Tendulkar, who commended Rahul’s clarity of thought and precise footwork.
Rahul, batting at No. 6 for only the second time in his Test career, faced challenging circumstances but displayed a mix of caution and aggression, hitting four sixes and 14 fours. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri hailed it as Rahul’s best Test century by a significant margin.
Tendulkar, who holds the record for the most centuries in South Africa among Asian batters, emphasized the importance of Rahul’s century in the context of the Test, considering India’s position at one stage. The innings marked Rahul as only the third Indian, after Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, to score more than one Test century in South Africa.
Despite Rahul’s recent struggles and being dropped from the Test side twice in the last three years, his century underscored his quality as a batsman. The innings not only showcased Rahul’s ability to bat out of position but also his resilience in adverse conditions, making it a standout performance in the series-opening Boxing Day Test.
