PATNA: The Bihar Grand Alliance, known as Mahagathbandhan, is encountering the predicament of plenty when it comes to the numerous parties within its fold.
At present, three out of six alliance members are already asserting their claim to a “sufficient” number of seats for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The RJD, led by Lalu Prasad, a significant ally in the alliance, has initiated discussions with MLAs, former MLAs, and all candidates from the 2020 assembly polls to gather feedback. The state party chief, Jagadanand Singh, presided over Sunday’s meeting, which was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. The party aims to conclude these consultations by Monday.
Bihar Congress Chief, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, has stated that his party intends to contest a minimum of 9 LS seats, just as it did in the 2019 election. It’s worth noting that Congress was the sole alliance member to secure a seat in that election. Meanwhile, both the CPI(M-L) and CPI, with 12 and two MLAs in the 243-member assembly respectively, have hinted at a potential firm stance regarding their share of seats. Congress, on the other hand, boasts 19 MLAs in the state assembly.
In addition to the RJD, the Bihar Grand Alliance comprises JD-U, Congress, CPI(M-L), CPI, and the CPM.
