Lucknow, In anticipation of Christmas and New Year celebrations, the district administration has enforced Section 144 in Lucknow, restricting public gatherings in malls, bars, restaurants, and other public places. The restrictions are set to be in effect for 10 days, starting from December 24 to January 2, 2024, with strict actions promised against violators.

According to a press note from Lucknow Police, the imposition of Section 144 aims to ensure peace and maintain law and order during the festive season. The restrictions specifically limit the gathering of individuals in various public spaces, including malls, bars, restaurants, and hotels.

The press note outlines, “Tickets and access will not be granted to more individuals than the designated capacity, regardless of whether the entertainment programmes are held inside or outside the premises. The management or organiser of the hotel, mall, bar, restaurant, or other public space is in-charge of regulating the loudspeakers’ sound level within the set parameters to ensure that the general public is not inconvenienced.”

In case of violation, the authorities emphasize that action will be taken, treating it as a breach of Section 144 of CrPC, in addition to relevant legal measures.

The responsibility has been placed on the operators/managers of establishments to inform the public about the restrictions, and all deputy commissioners of police have been instructed to raise awareness among businesses through seminars.
