YSR Telangana Party founder-president, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister, Y. S. Sharmila, merged her party with the Congress, expressing her willingness to take on any role entrusted by the party high command. Sharmila, the daughter of former Andhra Pradesh CM Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, emphasized her happiness to be associated with the party her father served till his last breath.
Sharmila, landing in New Delhi, joined Congress at the AICC headquarters in the presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Manickam Tagore.
Stating her readiness to contribute to the Congress in any capacity, Sharmila praised Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, expressing her commitment to realizing her father’s dream of seeing Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister. She lauded the Congress as the largest secular party, emphasizing its role in nation-building.
Sharmila, following the merger, met Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, receiving blessings for her political journey. The party high command is expected to decide on Sharmila’s role in the coming days.
Senior YSR Congress party leader, Y. V. Subba Reddy, suggested that Sharmila’s decision to join Congress may stem from having no alternative, asserting that it won’t impact YSRCP or Jagan Mohan Reddy.
