In a monumental move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces the infusion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s maritime legacy into the new epaulettes for naval officers, marking a departure from colonial symbols.

Prime Minister Modi, addressing the nation on Navy Day at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, revealed the transition from colonial symbolism to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s maritime legacy on naval epaulettes. The move signifies India’s departure from the mentality of slavery, drawing inspiration from the Maratha ruler.

The naval ensign, featuring Shivaji’s seal, was introduced last year during the commissioning of INS Vikrant. This year, the transformation extends to epaulettes and the nomenclature of naval ranks. The navy’s commitment to shedding colonial traditions aligns with a broader effort to embrace India’s rich cultural heritage.

PM Modi announced a shift towards Indianized naval ranks, with designations such as Master Chief Petty Officer Ist Class, Master Chief Petty Officer IInd Class, Chief Petty Officer, Petty Officer, Leading Seaman, Seaman Ist Class, and Seaman IInd Class. The move, affecting over 65,000 sailors, aims to replace British-inherited ranks and foster gender-neutral changes.

The Navy Day celebrations took place at the historic Sindhudurg Fort, constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century. The PM witnessed operational demonstrations by warships, submarines, aircraft, and marine commandos, emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening Nari Shakti in the armed forces.

PM Modi highlighted the government’s resolve to set big goals and work towards achieving them with determination. The positive outcomes of unity, resolutions, and aspirations, reflected in recent election results, signify a move towards a developed India. The PM emphasized India’s maritime heritage, economic prowess, self-reliance achievements, and the journey towards becoming a developed nation.

As India embraces its maritime history and forges ahead with symbols that resonate with its cultural identity, the naval transformations underscore a commitment to a future that aligns with the nation’s rich heritage. The renaming of ranks and infusion of Shivaji’s legacy mark a significant chapter in India’s maritime narrative….
