Former cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar remains unperturbed by India’s World Cup final loss to Australia, emphasizing the nation’s ability to swiftly shift focus. While some fans are still grappling with the heartbreaking defeat, Gavaskar, in his column for The Mid-Day, expressed disinterest in the subsequent T20 series against Australia, stating, “After what was a memorable World Cup, who was bothered about the T20 series except the staunch Indian cricket lovers.”

Gavaskar highlighted distractions such as the IPL 2024 retentions and upcoming auction, suggesting that the T20 series lacked allure without the participation of key players. He noted, “The big boys from both teams were not playing anyway, so there was no compelling reason to watch the T20 series after two months of top-class ODI cricket.”

The IPL retentions, featuring names like Ben Stokes and Hardik Pandya, took precedence, generating anticipation for the upcoming season. Gavaskar concluded that the intrigue surrounding transfers and trades captured more attention than the T20 series, showcasing India’s swift transition from World Cup disappointment to renewed cricketing focus.
