In a significant development, Australia’s opening batsman, David Warner, has been named in the 14-man squad for the initial encounter of the three-match Test series against Pakistan. Warner, who expressed his desire to conclude his 12-year Test career after the third Test against Pakistan in Sydney next year, faced uncertainties due to a lack of recent Test runs. However, his pivotal role in Australia’s recent World Cup victory seems to have secured his place in the squad.

The squad remains mostly unchanged, reflecting the composition of the team that clinched the World Test Championship and retained the Ashes in England last year. Noteworthy inclusions comprise Western Australian bowler Lance Morris, providing raw pace, and the return of off-spinner Nathan Lyon, replacing Todd Murphy.

Chief selector George Bailey emphasized that there are still opportunities for players to prove themselves for the subsequent Tests against Pakistan in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as the series against West Indies.

The Australia squad includes: David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Cameron Green, and Lance Morris.

Pakistan, seeking their first Test win in Australia in nearly three decades, is already preparing for the tour match in Canberra.
