In a noteworthy move, New Zealand’s promising batsman, Rachin Ravindra, inspired by Indian legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, is poised to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings secured the Indian-origin Kiwi for a substantial sum of Rs. 1.8 crore.

Left-handed batter Rachin, recognized for his adept spin skills, entered the IPL auction with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh, sparking a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.

The 24-year-old garnered attention during the recently-concluded ODI World Cup, amassing a record 578 runs, including three centuries against England, Australia, and Pakistan. Additionally, Rachin demonstrated his left-arm spin prowess by claiming five wickets.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Rachin reflected on his cricketing journey, attributing his interest to his father’s involvement in club cricket. He acknowledged the influence of spin-bowling all-rounder Daniel Vettori, whom he idolized growing up.

Rachin, with roots in Bengaluru, expressed the joy of reconnecting with family during the World Cup in India, emphasizing the significant role his parents played in nurturing his love for the sport.
