New Delhi, India’s star spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, responded strongly to former England captain Michael Vaughan’s recent remarks labeling Team India as “underachieving.” Vaughan, in a Fox Sports panel discussion, expressed his view that considering India’s resources, the team should have achieved more success, especially in ICC events.

In a retort on his YouTube channel, Ashwin defended the Indian team’s performance, particularly in Test cricket, highlighting their success as one of the best traveling sides. He acknowledged the absence of recent ICC trophies but emphasized the team’s resilience and consistent positive results.

Ashwin pointed out the fine margins in Test cricket, citing India’s recent Test against South Africa, where they faced early setbacks but recovered with a partnership between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. He urged against excessive criticism, emphasizing that cricket is a sport influenced by subtle differences.

Despite losses in two World Test Championship finals, Ashwin stressed the team’s ability to make comebacks in Test series and highlighted India’s commendable performance in away assignments.

The Indian cricket fraternity awaits further developments as the team looks to bounce back after a challenging Test series against South Africa.
