In anticipation of the upcoming T20 World Cup, Sunil Gavaskar weighs in on the potential return of batting icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the T20 format. Despite their absence in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Gavaskar emphasizes the duo’s brilliance on the field, adding firepower to the team.

Gavaskar stated, “Besides their batting prowess, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are still excellent fielders. Sometimes, you get slow when you are 35-36; your throw isn’t that good anymore. That’s not a problem for these two because they are still terrific fielders.”

India, grouped with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the United States, aims for a strong performance in the T20 World Cup. Gavaskar believes the return of Rohit and Kohli would not only bolster the team’s batting but also contribute significantly on the field. The debate over captaincy intensifies, with Rohit Sharma’s potential return sparking discussions.

As India prepares for its only remaining T20I assignment before the World Cup, facing Afghanistan on January 11, all eyes are on the players’ performances in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League, expected to influence squad selection for the World Cup.
