Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, in response to the ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, has accused Canada of harboring terrorists without concrete evidence. Sabry, speaking exclusively to ANI, expressed his lack of surprise at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s penchant for making unsubstantiated and sensational allegations.

In a candid interview with ANI, Ali Sabry, the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, weighed in on the recent diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Sabry contended that Canada has become a safe haven for some individuals involved in terrorist activities, and he criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for making unfounded accusations.

Sabry pointed out that Trudeau has a history of making sensational allegations without providing adequate supporting evidence. He cited Trudeau’s previous claims related to Sri Lanka, where the Canadian Prime Minister asserted that the country had experienced genocide, despite a lack of credible evidence to support this assertion.

Sabry acknowledged that Trudeau’s recent allegations against India, accusing it of involvement in the fatal shooting of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, have strained relations between the two nations. India firmly rejected these allegations, dismissing them as absurd and motivated.

Sabry also criticized Trudeau’s actions within Canada, notably his honoring of a former Nazi soldier in the Canadian parliament. He questioned Trudeau’s judgment in this regard, emphasizing that such actions are questionable. He highlighted that the Sri Lankan government had previously dealt with unsubstantiated allegations from Trudeau, suggesting that the Canadian Prime Minister’s statements often lack credibility.

Sabry emphasized that Trudeau’s “genocide” comments concerning Sri Lanka have had a detrimental impact on the relationship between Sri Lanka and Canada. He noted the contrasting positions between the Foreign Ministry, which has categorically denied any genocide in Sri Lanka, and Prime Minister Trudeau, who publicly claims otherwise. Sabry emphasized the contradiction between these stances, underscoring that such discord does not contribute to harmonious relations.

Sabry concluded by advising the Canadian Prime Minister not to interfere in the internal matters of sovereign nations. He stressed that countries should not dictate to others how they should govern themselves and that respecting each nation’s sovereignty is essential for fostering regional stability.
