The Supreme Court has kept its decision secure on the petitions demanding 100% verification of votes cast on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips.

Clarification Sought on Some Issues by the Supreme Court

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court sought clarification from the Election Commission on some specific aspects of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) system. Additionally, the Supreme Court had asked a senior official from the Election Commission for clarification at two o’clock in the afternoon. Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Deepankar Datta’s bench stated that clarification was necessary on some aspects because the Election Commission’s answers regarding “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQs) about EVMs contain some confusion. The Supreme Court had previously kept its decision secure.

What is VVPAT?

VVPAT is an independent voting verification system through which voters can verify whether their vote has gone to the candidate they voted for or not.
