In a surprising revelation during an interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia on “The Ranveer Show,” Rajeev Juneja, the Managing Director of Mankind Pharma, shared the story behind the company’s significant donation of Rs 250 crore for Covid-19 relief.
Juneja, 58, explained that initially, the family contemplated a donation of Rs 21 crore. However, influenced by his son and inspired by Akshay Kumar’s contribution of Rs 50 crore, they decided to increase the amount. The decision was an emotional one, aiming to support frontline workers, including doctors and nurses.
The managing director candidly disclosed, “Due to miscalculation, the estimated donation amount had one less zero than the actual amount we donated.” Mankind Pharma had pledged to donate a specified sum on the demise of any frontline worker, which resulted in a donation of 10 times more than initially committed.
Reflecting on the unintended generosity, Juneja expressed, “We gave without any expectation. But we got so much love and appreciation for that. It was all unexpected. Something big happened out of a mistake.”
Mankind Pharma’s commitment extended to providing support to the families of its employees lost during the pandemic, exemplifying their company culture rooted in empathy and compassion.
Juneja also commended the philanthropic efforts of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, emphasizing the impact of such initiatives worldwide.
With a net worth of $2.7 billion, Rajeev Juneja stands as the Managing Director of Mankind Pharma, a company he co-founded with his elder brother Ramesh in 1995.
