UPSC ESE 2024: Exam pattern of UPSC ESE exam explained

New Delhi, The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to conduct the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) for recruitment to posts/services under four categories: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.

Exam Stages:
1. Stage-I: Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type Papers)
2. Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main) Examination (Conventional Type Papers)
3. Stage-III: Personality Test

Important Dates:
– Preliminary Examination: February 18, 2024

Exam Details:
Preliminary Examination:
– Two objective-type question papers
– Total marks: 500 (Paper I = 200 marks, Paper II = 300 marks)
– Subjects: General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (Paper-I) and Engineering Discipline-specific (Paper-II)

Main Examination:
– Two conventional type papers
– Total marks: 600 (300 marks in each paper)
– Candidates selected based on minimum qualifying marks in the Preliminary exam

Personality Test:
– Candidates with minimum marks in Preliminary and Main exams called for the Personality Test
– Personality Test carries 200 marks
– Final ranking based on marks obtained in all three stages
