Srinagar, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated light rainfall or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh from December 22 to 24. On December 23, North Punjab, North Haryana, and Uttarakhand may also experience light rainfall or snowfall.

The Kashmir Valley is currently experiencing frigid temperatures as it prepares for ‘Chilla-i-Kalan,’ the 40 days of the harshest winter, with temperatures dropping several degrees below freezing. The period, commencing on December 21, extends until January 31, marking the peak of winter conditions in the region.

Fog Alert:

According to IMD, minimum temperatures range from 4-8°C across most regions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh. Dense fog is expected in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the next four days.

In other regions like East Uttar Pradesh, south Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar, minimum temperatures are in the range of 8-12°C, with dense fog in isolated areas of Punjab during the morning hours.

Rainfall Alert:

IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas, along with occasional thunderstorms and lightning in south Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep on Thursday.

Earlier forecasts indicated a light rainfall alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from December 21 to 26, 2023.
