In a discussion on the outcomes and future prospects of the BRICS Summit 2023, Oleg N. Avdeev, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in South India, voiced concerns about Western countries leveraging slogans of democracy and human rights while exploiting others to address their own challenges. Avdeev argued that these nations continue to extract resources from developing countries while projecting an image of benevolence. He emphasized that the Western states are striving to preserve the unipolar world and have been attempting to substitute international law with their own self-proclaimed rules-based order. Avdeev also noted the threat posed by radical neoliberalism propagated by certain countries, which seeks to undermine traditional values.
Furthermore, Avdeev contended that the emerging new world order is also at risk due to the radical neoliberalism pursued by certain countries, aiming to erode fundamental values such as family and respect for national and religious traditions. He emphasized the equality among participants in the BRICS summit, in contrast to the hierarchical structure of the G-7.
Founder-chairman of The Peninsula Foundation, Air Marshal M. Matheswaran, asserted that international bodies like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have been dominated by European and American control, shaping trading patterns, regulations, and standards. He called for the creation of independent standards to break free from neo-colonial processes.
The discussion also focused on economic relations between India and Russia, the hope for de-dollarization, and the need for an alternative perspective in the global order. The event was jointly organized by Russian House, The Peninsula Foundation, and the Indo-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
