The Trinamool Congress has announced its nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls, including Sagarika Ghose, a renowned journalist, columnist, and author. Alongside Ghose, the party has nominated Sushmita Dev, Mohammed Nadimul Haque, and Mamata Bala Thakur.

Sagarika Ghose, a distinguished figure in journalism, embarked on her career in 1991 and has contributed to esteemed publications such as The Times of India, Outlook, and The Indian Express. She earned her postgraduate studies in Modern History at Oxford University through a Rhodes scholarship after attending St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi.

Ghose has not only excelled in print journalism but also served as a prime-time anchor for BBC World on “Question Time India” and worked as the deputy editor and prime-time news anchor for CNN-IBN. Throughout her career, she has garnered accolades, including the C. H Mohammad Koya National Journalism Award and the Best Anchor Award from the Indian Television Academy.

Beyond her journalistic pursuits, Ghose is recognized as an author, having penned books such as “The Gin Drinkers”, “Blind Faith,” and “Why I Am A Liberal. A Manifesto for Indians Who Believe In Individual Freedom.” She has also authored significant biographies, including “Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.”

The daughter of Bhaskar Ghose, former director-general of Doordarshan, Sagarika Ghose is married to journalist and news anchor Rajdeep Sardesai.

The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for February 27, will witness these nominees, marking Sagarika Ghose’s entry into the political arena.
