In a significant reshaping of Bihar’s political landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has undertaken substantial changes, marking a departure from its previous leadership configuration. In the preceding term, BJP elevated Tarakeshwar Prasad and Renu Devi, both hailing from the backward caste, to the positions of Deputy Chief Ministers. However, in the current scenario, the party has opted for a strategic realignment, appointing Vijay Sinha from the Bhumihar community and Samrat Choudhary from the backward caste as Deputy Chief Ministers.
Vijay Sinha, a prominent and seasoned figure in Bihar politics, previously held the prestigious position of the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly following the 2020 elections. His ascendancy to this role was notable, securing 126 votes from the Lakhisarai constituency. A three-time consecutively elected MLA from Lakhisarai, Sinha has been actively involved in various capacities within the BJP organizational framework.
His political journey within the BJP began in 2000 when he assumed the responsibility of State Organizer for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Over the years, he progressed within the party hierarchy, becoming a member of the BJP State Working Committee in 2004. His contributions extended to serving as the State Secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha and Regional Coordinator for Begusarai and Khagaria districts.
Vijay Sinha’s initial victory as an MLA from Lakhisarai in March 2005 faced a brief interruption due to President’s rule for six months. However, he emerged triumphant in the subsequent November elections. His political resilience and connect with the people were further evident in the 2010 Assembly elections, where he secured victory after a five-year gap. Continuing this streak, he retained the Lakhisarai seat for three consecutive terms.
Beyond his legislative role, Vijay Sinha has been an integral part of the Nitish Kumar-led government, serving as the Minister of Labor Resources. Before assuming his recent appointment as Deputy Chief Minister, he held the crucial position of Minister-in-Charge of Begusarai.
Vijay Sinha’s roots trace back to his birth on June 5, 1967, in Tilakpur, located in Lakhisarai. He comes from the Bhumihar community and has a background associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His early engagement in political and social activities is evidenced by his role as the Secretary of the Durga Puja Committee at the tender age of 15. Furthermore, during his college years at AN College and Rajendra Nagar College, he actively participated in student politics, ultimately becoming the President of the Student Union at Rajendra Nagar College in 1985.
In the most recent development, Samrat Choudhary has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the BJP legislative party in Bihar, underlining the party’s commitment to strategic and diverse leadership choices. Vijay Sinha’s continued prominence and commitment position him as a crucial figure shaping the political dynamics within Bihar.
