In a strong response to DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran’s recent remarks on Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar working in Tamil Nadu, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav asserted that without the people of Bihar, other states would come to a standstill.
The controversy escalated as an old clip of Maran’s alleged statement went viral, prompting the BJP to question the silence of INDIA bloc leaders from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on the matter.
“If any leader of that party has said something about the people of UP and Bihar, then it is condemnable. We do not agree with it. The laborers from UP and Bihar are demanded all over the country. If they stop going elsewhere, then states will cease to function and come to a standstill,” stated Tejashwi Yadav in a press interaction.
Yadav further emphasized the need for political leaders to refrain from making statements that target specific communities. He criticized Maran’s comment, which implied that people from Bihar and UP were involved in cleaning gutters.
In response, BJP Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad called on DMK leaders to stop insulting the people of Bihar. He attributed the migration of people from Bihar to other states to the conditions in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, a member of the INDIA alliance.
Shehzad Poonawalla, from the BJP, criticized INDIA bloc leaders for not standing up against communal discrimination and questioned their inaction against the DMK. The recent controversy follows earlier statements made by DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, sparking a row with comparisons of Sanatana dharma to diseases.
The BJP MP urged leaders such as Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Yadav, Congress, and SP’s Akhilesh Yadav to take a stand against such incidents of alleged discrimination.
The situation continues to unfold, with political tensions rising over the controversial remarks and questions raised about the stance of INDIA alliance leaders in addressing the issue.
