Semiconductor Project: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the ‘Indias TechEd: Chips for Developed India’ via video conference on Wednesday, laying the foundation for three semiconductor projects worth approximately 1.25 lakh crore rupees. The Prime Minister stated that his vision is to establish India as a global center for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technological development, thereby enhancing employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
PM Modi emphasized the significant role of youth in technology. India is poised to become a leading semiconductor manufacturing center. The three facilities will boost economic development and foster innovation.
According to information, the foundation for the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat is being laid for semiconductor fabrication facility, outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Moriagaon, Assam, and OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
Under the modified plan for setting up semiconductor fabs in India, the semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) will be established by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL). With a total investment of 91,000 crore rupees, this will be the country’s first commercial semiconductor fab.
PM Modi further stated, “Through these facilities, the semiconductor ecosystem will be strengthened, and its roots will be firmly established in India. These units will provide employment to thousands of youth in the semiconductor industry and also promote job creation in related sectors such as electronics, telecommunications, etc.”*
