Hyderabad, Following a resounding victory in the recent Telangana assembly elections, the Congress party officially announced A. Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister. This decision, reached during a meeting of top Congress leaders at the residence of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, was confirmed by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.

Key leaders present at the meeting included Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, P Chidambaram, Rajani Patil, Manickam Tagore, Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Shashi Tharoor. The delayed swearing-in ceremony faced obstacles as differences emerged among senior leaders over the choice for the Chief Minister position.

Notably, the announcement came after AICC observers, including Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and AICC in-charge of Telangana Manikrao Thakre, held discussions in Delhi with the party high command.

Despite initial disagreements among senior leaders, a unanimous resolution during the CLP meeting empowered Kharge to finalize the Chief Minister candidate. The majority of the 64 MLAs supported Revanth Reddy, while some suggested alternatives like Bhatti, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Sridhar Babu.

In the aftermath of the decision, Revanth Reddy faced opposition from certain quarters within the party. The swearing-in ceremony, initially scheduled at Raj Bhavan, was postponed due to the lack of consensus. However, with the official declaration by the Congress high command, Revanth Reddy is set to lead the newly-elected Congress government in Telangana.
