This development follows a recent verdict by state court Justice Arthur Engoron, who determined that Trump and his family business systematically and fraudulently inflated the value of assets and net worth in order to secure favorable loan terms and insurance rates.
The legal suit, filed in 2022 by New York Attorney General Letitia James, not only targets Donald Trump but also involves his adult sons, the Trump Organization, and others. James alleges “staggering fraud” related to the overvaluation of properties to obtain loans and insurance.
The ramifications of this trial are substantial, with James seeking penalties of at least $250 million, a prohibition against Trump and his sons from operating businesses in New York, and a five-year commercial real estate restriction against Trump and his business entities.
