Varanasi:The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is poised to submit a meticulous report today before the Varanasi district court, detailing the progress and findings of the scientific survey conducted at the Gyanvapi mosque.
This follows the court’s decision on November 30, granting ASI an additional 10 days to conclude their examination and submit the comprehensive report. Amit Srivastava, the legal representative for ASI, informed that experts are diligently scrutinizing data, including intricate details of historical structures and remnants.
The ASI’s meticulous approach involves cross-referencing, correlating, and compiling the findings from various experts and specialists involved in the survey. Srivastava acknowledged that the completion and preparation of this extensive report will require some additional time.
Akhlaque Ahmad, representing the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee managing the mosque, objected to ASI’s repeated requests for time extensions, emphasizing the need for a concrete cause. The district judge, Ajaya Krishna Vishvesha, while granting the extension, cited facts presented in the application and set December 11 as the next hearing date.
The scientific survey, which resumed on August 4 under tight security, was initiated following the Varanasi court’s order on July 21. Notably, the court had previously granted a 15-day extension on November 18 and an additional 10 days on November 30 for ASI to compile and submit the survey report.
