In a pivotal address at the third ‘Audit Diwas,’ President Droupadi Murmu asserted that auditors should be perceived not merely as critics but as integral facilitators of good governance. Applauding the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) for embracing advanced auditing methodologies, including artificial intelligence, President Murmu emphasized the role of auditors as guiding companions in the nation’s developmental journey.

President Murmu underscored the significance of auditors contributing effectively to the national goals of accelerated growth and development while upholding financial propriety and legality. She articulated, “The auditors should be considered as facilitators of good governance, not critics. They should be considered guides whose scrutiny teaches us to follow the right path.”

Emphasizing the pivotal role of the CAG team, President Murmu expressed confidence in their contribution to propelling India to become the third-largest economy globally. She commended the CAG for its forward-looking steps, including the establishment of the Centre for Data Management and Analytics, showcasing a commitment to leveraging digital technology and modern methodologies.

Acknowledging India’s amplified global standing, President Murmu highlighted the nation’s influence in the audit domain. She commended the emphasis on blue economy and responsible artificial intelligence during India’s presidency of Supreme Audit Institutions 20 (SAI 20), characterizing it as a commendable effort to chart a roadmap for the future.

CAG Girish Chandra Murmu, in his address, celebrated the concerted efforts of the organization, resulting in 183 audit reports covering the entirety of government activities presented in Parliament and state legislatures during 2022-23. He highlighted the organization’s seamless transition to 100% digital auditing processes effective April 2023, leveraging a comprehensive enterprise-wide audit process and knowledge management IT System.

The event marked a significant stride towards aligning audit practices with the demands of the digital era, reinforcing the commitment to transparency, integrity, and innovative governance.
