Former Indian Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal has assumed the prestigious position of Chancellor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, succeeding the outgoing Chancellor, NITI Aayog member Vijay Kumar Saraswat. This appointment was received with enthusiasm by the JNU community, as expressed in their heartfelt welcome message.

Kanwal Sibal brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to his new role, having served as India’s ambassador to Turkey, Egypt, France, and Russia. He also played a significant role in India’s National Security Advisory Board from 2008 to 2010. Furthermore, Sibal serves on the board of the East-West Institute in New York and holds a position on the executive council of the Vivekanand International Foundation. He is also an adviser to the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum and chairs the Forum of Strategic and Security Studies.

Notably, Sibal received the esteemed Padma Shri award in 2017, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the nation.

This appointment signifies an exciting chapter in JNU’s history, as they look forward to benefiting from Kanwal Sibal’s guidance and expertise in his new role as Chancellor.
