In an historic underwater metro journey beneath the Hooghly River in Kolkata, Prime Minister Modi traveled with school children from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade Station. The enthusiasm of these students, including Arohi, who joyfully sang “Saare Jahan Se Achha,” was evident. Arohi expressed her excitement about meeting Prime Minister Modi and took pride in being part of the inaugural underwater metro ride.

Before the Prime Minister’s arrival, school children were accommodated at Mahakaran Metro Station, and the train, adorned with flowers, was unveiled. Prajna, another student, shared her excitement about the unique experience of traveling with the Prime Minister in the first-ever underwater metro. She praised the nation’s scientists and engineers for their achievements.

During this historic journey, selected school children, along with Prime Minister Modi, were accompanied by West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari, and State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar. Media access to the train was restricted during the event. The underwater metro corridor, connecting Sealdah to Sodepur, is expected to facilitate daily travel for approximately 7 lakh people.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the underwater metro corridor, emphasizing its significance in Kolkata’s transportation network. The underwater metro is set to enhance connectivity and offer a modern transportation experience to the residents of the city.
