In a significant move to boost railway infrastructure across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for approximately 2,000 rail projects valued at over ₹41,000 crore on February 26. The projects include the redevelopment of 553 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, spanning 27 states and union territories, with a total cost exceeding ₹19,000 crore.

These redeveloped stations are envisioned as ‘City Centres,’ integrating various sections of cities. Equipped with modern passenger amenities, such as roof plazas, landscaping, intermodal connectivity, improved facades, children’s play areas, kiosks, and food courts, the stations aim to be environmentally friendly and accessible to people with disabilities. The designs will draw inspiration from local culture, heritage, and architecture.

Among the inaugurated stations is the Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, redeveloped at a cost of around ₹385 crore. With segregated arrival and departure facilities to accommodate future passenger footfall, the station boasts features like air concourse, congestion-free circulation, food courts, and ample parking in upper and lower basements.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will unveil plans for 1,500 road overbridges and underpasses, spread across 24 states and union territories, with a total investment of ₹21,520 crore. These projects aim to alleviate congestion, enhance safety and connectivity, and improve the capacity and efficiency of rail travel.

This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to modernize and upgrade the country’s rail infrastructure, promoting sustainable and efficient transportation. The comprehensive approach involves not only enhancing connectivity but also focusing on passenger experience and environmental considerations.

The ambitious projects are expected to bring about a transformative impact on rail travel, fostering economic development and accessibility for citizens across the nation.
