In a groundbreaking development, the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala has introduced a revolutionary design for AC 1 coaches that aims to rival the comfort of business class on airplanes. The proposed design relocates the aisle to the center of the coach, allowing for compact coupes on both sides, each equipped with panoramic windows. This innovative approach not only maximizes window views for passengers but also increases the coach’s capacity from 24 berths to 30.
“We have endeavored to create a design where the central aisle enhances the passenger experience, with cabins on both sides providing window access to more travelers. During the day, two passengers can comfortably occupy each AC 1st class coupe, which can be converted into berths at night. Additional amenities such as laptop tables, bottle holders, and entertainment screens will further enhance passenger satisfaction,” explained RCF Kapurthala GM Arun Kumar Jain.
Moreover, Indian Railways is preparing for the introduction of Vande Bharat sleeper coach trains, which are set to replace existing long-distance trains, including the Rajdhanis. These new trains promise improved acceleration and reduced travel time, offering passengers a smoother and quieter journey.
The Vande Bharat Express sleeper trains, designed for speeds of 160 km per hour, consist of 16 coaches with the capacity to accommodate approximately 887 passengers. The much-anticipated launch is expected in early 2024.
This transformative design and the upcoming Vande Bharat sleeper coach trains are poised to elevate the travel experience for Indian Railways passengers, aligning with modern comfort and efficiency standards.
