Lok Sabha Election 2024: campaign for second phase halts; voting on April 26 for 89 seats

The Lok Sabha Election 2024’s campaign for the second phase came to a close on Wednesday evening. In this phase, polling will take place on April 26 for 89 seats across 13 states.

Lok Sabha Election 2024: Voting for 89 Seats in the Second Phase

In the Lok Sabha Election 2024’s second phase, voting will take place on April 26 for 89 seats across 13 states. Here are the details of the seats to be contested:

– Kerala: All 20 seats

– Karnataka: 14 out of 28 seats

– Rajasthan: All 13 seats

– Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh: 8 seats each

– Madhya Pradesh: All 7 seats

– Assam and Bihar: 5 seats each

– Chhattisgarh and West Bengal: 3 seats each

– Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir: 1 seat each

Earlier, during the first phase of the seven-phase election, approximately 65.5% voting was recorded for 102 seats in 21 states and union territories. On May 7, voting will take place for 94 seats in 12 states and union territories in the third phase of the Lok Sabha Election.

Major Candidates for the Second Phase

In the second phase, prominent candidates include:

– Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Central Minister (Thiruvananthapuram)

– Tejasvi Surya, BJP (Bangalore South)

– Hema Malini (Mathura)

– Arun Govil (Meerut)

– Congress leader Rahul Gandhi (Wayanad)

– Shashi Tharoor (Thiruvananthapuram)

– D.K. Suresh, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar’s brother (Bangalore Rural)

– H.D. Kumaraswamy, Former Chief Minister of Karnataka (Mandya)

In the past few days, during the intense campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah held rallies and roadshows for the BJP. BJP President J.P. Nadda, several Union Ministers, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also campaigned in the state. Key leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao campaigned for the Congress.

Voting in Maharashtra for Eight Lok Sabha Seats

There are 204 candidates in the fray for eight Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Voting will take place for Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, and Yavatmal-Washim in Western Vidarbha.

Voting in West Bengal for Three Lok Sabha Seats

Voting will take place for three Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, namely Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat. A total of 47 candidates are contesting from these constituencies, with 51,17,955 eligible voters.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 56 seats out of these 89, while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) won 24 seats, with six of these seats undergoing a recount.
