West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has declared that she will lead protests in Delhi if Prime Minister Narendra Modi declines a meeting during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. The announcement was made during the ongoing Trinamool Congress agitation, demanding the clearance of the state’s dues under the MGNREGA by the central government.
The Winter Session, scheduled from December 4-22, prompts Mamata Banerjee to plan her visit to Delhi in the second or third week of December. She expressed her intent to request a meeting with the Prime Minister, stating, “If he gives time, then it’s well, otherwise we will hit the streets.”
Previously, party workers, led by Abhishek Banerjee, held protests in Delhi in October, focusing on Rajghat, Jantar Mantar, and the Rural Development Ministry at Krishi Bhawan.
Mamata Banerjee urged party members to be prepared for potential protests by organizing rallies and meetings. She criticized the BJP and CPI(M), asserting the need for “political revenge” against these parties. Allegations were made against the CPI(M) for corruption, referred to as “pocket maar” (pickpockets).
In response to accusations against her government regarding the cattle smuggling and coal scams, Mamata Banerjee shifted blame to central security agencies. She questioned the role of the Border Security Forces and accused channels of bias, stating they were instructed to label TMC as “thieves.”
The Chief Minister concluded by vowing to put “eight of them (BJPs)” in jail if four of her ministers are imprisoned. The TMC leaders are currently facing multiple probes related to various alleged scams and irregularities.
