Nayanthara made a huge feat with her film ‘Annapoorani’ as it marked her 75th film. Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the movie stars Nayanthara, Jai, and Sathyaraj in lead roles, and the film was released in theaters on December 1, 2023. The movie received a bland response and made a gross of Rs 5 crore at the box office.

According to reports from The Republic, a complaint has been filed at the LT Marg Police Station in Mumbai, and the movie promotes Love Jihad. The complaint also read that the film’s scene has actor Jai saying that Lord Ram was a meat eater, which hurts religious sentiments.

The film, as the title suggests, ‘Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food’ created a tiff after its digital premiere on OTT platform Netflix. A complaint was filed by the Hindu IT Cell at the Mumbai police as the movie misrepresented Valmiki’s Ramayana and criticized Lord Ram. The movie’s story revolves around a girl who dreams and aspires to be a chef, but being a Hindu temple pujari’s daughter, she faces a lot of challenges and struggles to cook non-vegetarian food, and the film created controversy as one of the scenes shows her performing the Islamic prayer Namaz as she covers her head with a scarf before a cooking competition. Nayanthara, before she competed in the film, remembers that one of her friends from college said that her Briyani tasted exceptional as she performed Namaz before cooking, and she tried the same before the cooking competition. This scene has created controversy as it hurts the religious sentiments of many.
