The craze for NEET-UG is soaring not just across the nation but also notably in Bihar, where the number of applicants has been rapidly increasing each year. This year, NEET-UG 2024 has shattered all previous records in Bihar, with a staggering 1,39,398 students registering for the exam. This marks a significant rise from the 1,21,647 students who applied for NEET-UG 2023.
Nationwide, a record-breaking 23,81,833 students will participate in the NEET-UG exam scheduled for May 5th. While the total number of registrations stood close to 25 lakh, final submissions exceeded 23.81 lakh. This marks the highest registration yet for admission to undergraduate medical courses. Notably, this year has seen more female applicants than male, with over 13 lakh female applicants compared to just over 10 lakh male applicants.
Dr. Bipin Singh, the MD of Gol Institute, revealed that Bihar contributed 1,39,398 registrations, with over 10 lakh OBC-NCL candidates among the 23 lakh registrations nationwide. The gender distribution shows 13,63,216 female applicants and 10,18,593 male applicants, with 24 candidates registering under the third gender category.
Furthermore, state-wise statistics reveal Uttar Pradesh leading with 3,39,125 applications, followed by Maharashtra with 2,79,904 and Rajasthan with 1,96,139 applications. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka closely follow with 1,55,216 and 1,54,210 applications, respectively. Kerala follows suit with 1,44,949 applications, while Bihar ranks seventh with 1,39,398 applications.
In terms of category, OBC-NCL applicants topped with 10,43,084, followed by General with 6,43,596, SC with 3,52,107, General-EWS with 1,88,557, and ST with 1,54,489 applications.
Moreover, government medical colleges have increased MBBS seats to accommodate the surge, with 6000 additional seats allocated for NEET-UG 2024. This year witnesses a competition of 42.2 candidates per seat, marking the lowest ratio in the past eight years.
